Bedding the sweet potatoes

Once we have the cinder blocks set, we put down newspaper then cover with a layer of aged sawdust.

 

Next we lay out the sweet potatoes by variety with corn cobs separating them.  This year we're growing 30 varieties.

Then we cover all the sweet potatoes with a thick layer of sawdust.

Finally, we water the bed well and put down storm window.  We'll keep the windows on until the sweet potato slips start to come up through the sawdust while making sure to vent them on hot days and keeping them well watered.
